So glad Bear loves our new bedroom just as much as we do! He has definitely taken to the turkish towel blanket you see here. He even wore his blue harness for the shot. Brings out his eyes.
Anyways, you know how I've got it bad for the blues? Well, here is another example. I recently finished our master bedroom which I've been referring to as "Fifty Shades of Blue". Because, seriously, it has fifty shades of blue. Not saying it's a bad thing!
For this design, I had a few elements that I needed to work with and around. For starters, the landlords wouldn't let us change the paint color :-) . Not that it's bad! I love beige. But every room in the entire house was painted the same exact beige color. It was a fight to change Miss Avery Etta's room and the Woman Cave. So I lost this fight. Ya win some and ya lose some! Fair enough. I could definitely work with it!
Other no-no's to get rid of were our king size stainless steel canopy bed, our area rug and night tables. All were a little on the pricer side (for us!) I do still love them. Here are some pics of our old master bedroom back in the BK!
I loved our old bedroom (besides the fact that it was a dark, dark, cave). Missing that beautiful metallic grasscloth wallpaper and hoping the new owners didn't rip it out!
Anyways, for the new digs, I wanted to put a little bit more of a relaxed, Cali spin on our room. The room is definitely smaller than our old, so I was a little worried about the canopy bed feeling heavy in the new space.
Also, although I LOVED our old white hotel style bedding, I had to come to terms with the fact that a white duvet cover is just not in the cards for mommy right now! In this phase of our lives, we have two little filthy animals rolling all over our furniture and beds. I wanted to find a way to be OK with that. So, I compromised with a nice soft white percale sheet set with a frayed edge, and an "I woke up like this" beige linen crinkly duvet cover and shams.
So, all things considered, I'm really happy with the way this little gem turned out! What do you think?
Of course, as a designer, no project is ever really complete! But my punch list isn't too bad here. I'm thinking of doing some wall mounted planters on the TV wall. I'm also feeling like the slipper chair needs a lumbar pillow! Yes, I know. I have a pillow problem.
And, if you're super observant, you'll notice that the blue ceramic lamps from our old bedroom that were in the very first picture (with Bear) don't appear in the later pictures. I ended up swapping them out for the crystal and using them somewhere else in the house. Stay tuned!
